Ecoenergía Co-Generation Power Plant (‘EcoEnergía’)

Ecoenergía, located on the outskirts of the City of Bahía Blanca, Province of Buenos Aires, is a co-generation power plant located inside TGS (‘Transportadora de Gas del Sur’)’ General Cerri Complex. Commissioned in 2011, it consists of a 14 MW steam turbine and sells electricity in the Energía Plus market. From 2012 to 2023, EcoEnergía’s historical average annual generation amounted to 89 GWh, with a generation record high of 108 GWh in 2018, and a record low of 68 GWh in 2023.

It is worth highlighting that this power plant consists in unconventional renewable electricity generation through the use of the residual heat from exhaust gases (450ºC) coming from three gas turbines located at the Fiat compression plant in TGS‘s General Cerri Complex. For its functioning, a set of ducts were installed to collect the effluent gasses from the 3 gas turbines, a gas recovery boiler, a steam turbine, and a 33 kV 10km-long medium voltage line to transport the generated electricity to Chañares Substation.

The following chart shows certain relevant statistical data on EcoEnergía:
